Alina is a wonderful spirit. I remember the first time i saw her walking around a vintage market in Torino, it was a summer day and she was walking with her red hair, a floppy hat and her best accessory which is her positive mellow aura (call me a hippie but is true!). As soon as i saw her I instantly knew that she was an artist, even before I met her or knew anything about who she was. Alina Vergnano is an Italian illustrator based in Copenhagen where she is currently working as a freelancer. I would love to tell you more about her, but its better for her to tell you herself...

- WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
The main inspiration for my work comes from people and their feelings. I try to explore the sphere of emotions and feelings that belong to us all as humans beings. I think that persons in general, our stories, our experiences, the way we build and end relationship, are an inexhaustible source of inspiration for my work
WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BE AN ILLUSTRATOR?
I always had a strong need to express my self, my thoughts and my feelings. When I was younger I used to write poems and stories, but drawing is a way to express my self and what I feel that comes so naturally for me that slowly has taken the place of words and any other
thing.
HOW WOULD YOU DEFINE YOUR STYLE?
It's very hard to auto-define your style but I think that I can say it's something very delicate, in a way very feminine, but that has always something deep to say. I talk about loneliness, very personal feelings and very intimate things.
DOES TURIN, THE CITY YU GREW UP IN, INFLUENCE YOUR WOK IN SOME WAY?
Turin is the place where I've studied and where I met most of the people that are so important in my personal life and a fundamental support and inspiration for what I'm doing, but I think that my growth as an illustrator and an artists has started with my first travels that have brought me in front of new and inspiring places, people and different ways to make art.
DO YOU FOLLOW-CONSIDER YOURSELF A PART OF A CREATIVE WAVE-VIBE?
Not sure actually, I can see things in common with the works of other illustrators but I don't want to be part of a wave, because tendencies comes and goes and your personal "style" , if it's authentic, it's what stays.
DO YOU HAVE AN ARTIST THAT INFLUENCES YOUR WORK?
If I think about art-history my first thought goes to artists like Klimt, Shiele, Modigliani, Giacometti, Klee, Matisse and their way to make portraits that where so much a mirror of the soul. Recently I had big a crush on some of the artists of the Beautiful Losers , like Margaret Kilgallen and Chris Johanson. I think their work has influenced so much of our generation of illustrators and artists.
WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN THE FUTURE? WHERE DO YOU SEE YOUR WORK EVOLVE?
I hope to have more and more passion and motivation on what I'm doing and keep doing it good for the rest of my life. I don't know in which direction my work could evolve in the future but I think that keep on evolving is the key of everything.
